Normal people are exhausted after two days of partying, but in the metal world there’s no softies. We all know that June 3rd, Friday, you’ll keep fighting till the last drop of sweat. You’ll witness the concerts of legends, such as Saxon, Mayhem or Benediction, but also bands who are right now building their own legends, like Mgła. Make sure to keep some strength for the birthday party – this night metal gods Judas Priest will be celebrating 50th anniversary.
Czerń will open Friday at Sabbath Stage – and they do mix metal with punk like nobody else. The Polish scene will also be represented by Fleshworld, who inhabit the no man’s land between black and hardcore. Guests from France: melancholic and gloomy Hangman’s Chair and Déluge, who merge their postharcore sound in blackmetal rage and deep ambient.
Desert Stage performances will be initiated by Only Sons. They are from Kraków, but
their home are the riffs with the Alice in Chains vibe – straight from the US, from a
a quarter century ago, situated somewhere between stoner and grunge. “That’s how
heavy metal should be played”, wrote “The Guardian” about Green Lung. It’s hard to
disagree – they have weight, trance, and black magic there. Spacelug will play doom and
stoner, fueled by space rock, and The Stubs will give you punk’n’roll straight from a
garage in Warszawa. With such bursts of energy, sandstorms might occur. Favorit89 will
host the afterparty with synthwave steeped in darkness.
Shrine Stage will be besieged by Azarath – they headline, because after their show, the stage will be in rumble. Before the creators of “Saint Desecration”, the stage will be attacked by: black/punk Okkultokrati, Raging Speedhorn, who mash hardcore with sludge, Proscription, mixing black and death in typical Finnish way, and Tester Gier, who with their oldchool trash bring endless chaos to music.
Park Stage has a pleasant name, reminding you of grass, but arguably it’s the noisiest park on the earth. There, madness will commence with Hentai Corporation, and then Dopelord with their stoner/doom roller will smash you to the ground. A moment of rest, and Park Stage will be covered by the Scandinavian shadow cast by melancholic/death Tribulation, and then the whole stage will be consumed by Mgła. The act of destruction will be made complete by the living legend of black metal – Mayhem. We’d feel awkward if we had to introduce them. We know you know them.
Main Stage on that day will be all about the celebration of British heavy metal. We didn’t exactly plan it this way, but that’s how all the pieces were assembled.
First, The Raven Age, will demonstrate how they mix the heavy metal tradition with contemporary metal groove. Next, Benediction will remind us that the British also have their own vision of death metal, and Saxon will wage their conquering crusade under the banner of NWOBHM. And finally Judas Priest, with their astounding, jubilee show, celebrating fifty years on stage will rock the Gdańsk Shipyard. Save your throats, because in the presence of Metal God, you’ll sing all the cult anthems. Planets are going to be devastated, mankind's on its knees…
