On Thursday, 2nd June, we’ll experience the festival in full swing: five stages and one cinema. Opeth will serve a true feast for the ear, Mastodon will crush you, Katatonia will sadden you, and Heilung will astound you with their dark rituals.
On Thursday, Sabbath Stage is powered by our friends from Napalm Events. They have invited Danish (0) and Konvent, who explore the borders of black, doom and post-metal, as well as Dwaal, who on stage mash doom and sludge. Polish band Mentor will join the line-up, offering a punch of black’n’roll.
Desert Stage may not be the largest scene, but it’s bound to offer you great adventures. June 2nd there will begin with the show of Neon Mud, who dunk their doom and stoner sounds in foul sludge sauce. Major Kong’s riffs bear the stoner/doom weight, but they also know how to fly high, all the way to cosmos. Dead Lord go back to Sweden, and to the 70s – hard to believe anyone could feel classic rock à la Thin Lizzy or Nazareth in this way. Finally, The Picturebooks, whose blues rock sounds like a trip through the American South on a chopper through an endless, dry summer.
Shrine Stage will be ruled by femininity, present in a wide variety of different music projects. Brutus clashes hardcore rage with a post-rock momentum, GGGOLDDD plays dark post-metal, seething with emotions, and Dolch, forever devoted to darkness, will bring trans and ethereal sounds on stage. This selection will be supplemented by gothic-punk Maggot Heart, as well Ovo, dripping in dirt and noise.
Park Stage will be opened by Comepass from Poznań, who won this year’s edition of Road to Mystic. After them Kvelertak will storm the stage with beast energy. It’s good that Gdańsk Shipyard has survived many sea storms, since after this onslaught the stage will be needed for the visionary Baroness, shamanic Heilung and gloomy Katatonia.
Main Stage means heavy music weight. Here, the fist punches will be thrown by groove metal Bleed From Within. The next swing will be delivered by Malevolence, British hooligans, mixing hardcore and thrash. Mastodon needs no introduction – these legendary masters of riffs will knock you down. Swedish Opeth will deliver the final punch with their refined merger of metal and psychedelic prog rock.
Not enough? Still not sleepy? Good! Don’t miss Nightrun87’s show that will open the kickass afterparty at Desert Stage.
The new dates of the festival are 2-4 June (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). The festival will take place in the Gdańsk shipyard.
